Memories of the 70s

Russ Daniels got the MSUCR bug in 1974 when he first walked in the doors of Shaw Hall’s WKME. A year later, he moved to WMSN, serving both on the air and as Air Staff Director. Following in the footsteps of Ross Holland, Chuck Siemen, John Nagy, and John Mertz, Russ went professional at WITL-AM/FM (Lansing) from 1980-87 and then moved to the now-dark WIBM-FM (Jackson, MI) through the last few months of ’87. Like many MSUCR folk, he left broadcasting for the stability and career growth afforded by a career in civil service with the State of Michigan. Like many of us, he says his fondest memories are those that happened during his time in the basement of the Student Service Building.

Here are some items from Russ’ MSUCR Collection. How many names do you remember?

WMSN Lives.. on Darrell’s license plate

WMSN PlateWhen Steve and Laurie Schram went to Ritters Custard stand in suburban Detroit for some ice cream, Steve was drawn to the unique license plate he noticed in the parking lot. The letters were as familiar as an old friend and his eyes were scanning the lot for it’s owner. It turned out to be MSUCR alum Darrell Fecho. For those of us who bleed Green blood, nothing is better than a vanity license plate with a Spartan S on it. And for Darrell , it’s also his special way of keeping the WMSN legend alive.
